Qanun (Kanun), amateur recording

Mitsos Michailidis, born in Alaya and a student of the renowned qanun player Georgios Stefanidis, managed to save his qanun at the age of twelve during the expulsion. In order to make a living, he played in Constantinopolitan–Asia Minor ensembles in Athens, before later turning to the textile industry.
This particular recording was made around 1980 by Charis Zachos—Mitsos Michailidis’ son-in-law—using a simple cassette recorder, during a festive family gathering.
