Iconostasis Elements from Churches of Alaya

In the Chapel of St Serafeim, within the Church of St Constantine, religious icons of the Virgin Mary and Jesus are incorporated into the iconostasis, together with sections of iconostases preserved from the Churches of Saints Constantine and Helen and of the Archangels in Alaya. Their inscriptions are in Karamanli script, and the works have been recently conserved.
The photograph presents the modest Chapel of St Serafeim, with its low white iconostasis and portable icons of the Virgin, Christ, and the Saints. At the centre stand the double-leaf Royal Doors, painted with scenes from the life of Christ and apostles, while the lower sections incorporate painted panels within carved wooden ornament. The space conveys an intimate, prayerful atmosphere—like a small refuge of memory within the church.
