Description
The handles, also of iron, are large and oval, made to accommodate the entire palm so that the user can apply force with stability. The central nut—the pivot axis—is thick and robust, allowing for precise alignment of the blades. Such shears were essential workshop tools, used by tailors, weavers, and women who sewed their own dowries or clothing.
Their weight and length indicate they were intended for heavy work and for materials such as linen, woollens, and thick cotton. Despite wear, the tool conveys the robustness of its time and the handmade quality of blacksmithing in the early decades of the 20th century. It is exhibited at the Textile Museum of KE.MI.PO., Municipality of Nea Ionia.
