A folk woodcarving depicting St George, preserved from the icon corner of the Abousidis family home. Carved from a single piece of wood, it bears characteristic features of Asia Minor woodcarving: a strongly modelled relief, an arched “niche,” and decorative geometric elements in the upper section. St George was the patron saint of Alaya and, according to tradition, slew the dragon beneath the city’s Red Tower.
It is an authentic document of domestic devotion, folk artistry, and the cultural heritage of the Greeks of the East.
