Carnival 1935

Carnival photograph in Podarades, Nea Ionia, with members of the Alaya-origin families Tsompanakis and Kyrioglou. The people of Alaya often wore traditional garments, frequently modified for satirical effect, while a distinctive feature was the rich, gold, and elaborate jewellery they had preserved from the 1922 expulsion.

Donated to the collection of the Alaya Association and exhibited at the ALAYA Cultural Centre, from the personal archive of Kostas Tsompanakis, President of the Association, by his wife Sofia Tsompanaki.
