Ecclesiastical Blessing Cross

Ecclesiastical blessing cross, preserved from the Holy Church of the Archangels, located within the Castle of Alanya, by the priest Konstantinos Oikonomidis. The cross is an exceptional example of 19th-century ecclesiastical metalwork: it features finely worked miniatures of sacred figures in its recessed sections, decorative finials reminiscent of church-shaped architectural forms, as well as the Byzantine eagle at the top, a symbol of Orthodoxy and spiritual authority.

The priest Konstantinos Oikonomidis served in the churches of Alaya and died in Nea Ionia, having brought his flock safely to their new homeland.

The cross was later conserved and donated to the collection of the Alaya Association by his grandson, Kostas Oikonomidis. It is exhibited at the ALAYA Cultural Centre.
