Ivory-Inlaid Cross

A liturgical blessing cross of the priest Konstantinos Oikonomidis, who served in the churches of Alaya and accompanied his flock along the path of refuge until their settlement in Nea Ionia, where he later reposed.
The cross combines cast bronze with inlaid ivory fields, a technique encountered in ecclesiastical workshops of the late 19th and early 20th century. The Crucified Christ is rendered with detail and plasticity, while the vegetal and figured motifs along the border relate to Neo-Byzantine and Asia Minor decorative models.

Donated to the collection of the Alaya Association by his grandson, Kostas Oikonomidis, it is exhibited at the ALAYA Cultural Centre.
