Plate for Formal Meals

A piece from an imported festive dinner service, produced by the English workshop Bishop & Stonier Ltd., known for fine tableware in the early 20th century. The plate is decorated with delicate purple vegetal ornament and a scalloped rim—features characteristic of Edwardian-period English porcelain.
Preserved from the mansion of the Chatzistefanou–Ananiadis family, a family of jurists in Alaya, it offers insight into the lifestyle and high social status of the Greeks of the Asia Minor community.

Donated to the collection of the Alaya Association by Maria Andrianopoulou, the family’s granddaughter, it is exhibited at the ALAYA Cultural Centre.
