Dressmaking Students in Attaleia

Group portrait of students of a dressmaking school in Attaleia, all young women from Alaya. For the official photographic sitting, they wear the traditional local costume, rich in silk textiles and gold jewellery—elements that highlight the families’ social prosperity and the craftsmanship of the region’s textile tradition.
Of particular interest is the characteristic bronze buckle in the form of “hand-in-hand” on the belt of the third girl from the right, which is today exhibited at the Folklore Museum of KE.MI.PO., Nea Ionia.

Donated to the collection of the Alaya Association by Melpomeni Sakaloglou, and exhibited at the ALAYA Cultural Centre.
