St George

A devotional icon preserved from the home of the Tsismetzoğlu family in Alaya. It is a characteristic example of early 20th-century Asia Minor folk icon painting, with lively colours, simplified drawing, and pronounced narrative emphasis in the scene of the slaying of the dragon.

It was later conserved by the icon painter Dimitris Alevizopoulos.

Donated to the collection of the Alaya Association by Leonidas Tsismetzoğlu, President of the Association, it is exhibited today at the ALAYA Cultural Centre.
