Virgin and Child II

A devotional icon of the Virgin and Child, preserved from the home of the family of Petros Karakoulakoglou in Alaya. It is a characteristic work of the late Asia Minor folk icon-painting tradition, with a bright colour palette and evident signs of wear that attest to everyday domestic use and devotion.
The icon was later conserved by the icon painter Dimitris Alevizopoulos, with respect for its morphology and the patina of time.
