A devotional icon of St Onouphrios preserved from the home of the family of Petros Karakoulakoglou in Alaya. It is a characteristic example of early 20th-century Asia Minor folk painting, with a simplified rendering of the saint’s ascetic type and a gentle colour palette.
The icon was later conserved by the icon painter Dimitris Alevizopoulos, contributing to the stabilisation of the surface and the preservation of the original paint layer.
Kindly made available for photography by the family of Stathis Nouveloglou.
