A primary school leaving certificate issued to the Alaya-origin refugee Georgios Hekim Savvaoglou, known as “the doctor Savvas’s child.” Georgios, orphaned of his father, attended the Saframboleos Primary School of Nea Ionia, one of the refugee educational structures created to receive and educate children newly arrived from Asia Minor.
The document bears handwritten notes, stamps, and grades, reflecting efforts to integrate refugee children into the Greek educational system during the interwar period. It is a characteristic record of refugee education in Nea Ionia, as well as of the history of one of the families of the Alayan community.
Kindly made available for photography by his son, Paraskevas Iatridis.
