Edition Dedicated to the Kykkos Monastery (Cyprus)

A rare 1816 edition dedicated to the Kykkos Monastery of Cyprus, printed in Venice by Nikolaos Gkatzis. The volume includes a historical narrative of the monastery, a description of the miraculous icon of the Virgin of Kykkos, biographical references to earlier abbots, as well as various ecclesiastical accounts and traditions. Of particular value is the recording of the Monastery’s “Order” (Taxis), which offers important information on its liturgical, administrative, and devotional life in the early 19th century.
This copy is an authentic document of Cypriot ecclesiastical history and of the wider Orthodox literary tradition of the Eastern Mediterranean, at a time when the Greek presses of Venice played a pivotal role in disseminating religious texts.
