Blessing cross

Blessing cross from the Holy Church of the Archangels, located within the Castle of Alanya, preserved by the priest Konstantinos Oikonomidis during the persecution. The priest safely led his flock to Nea Ionia, where he continued his ministry until his passing.
The object is an example of early 20th-century ecclesiastical metalwork, with a cast bronze body and inlaid ivory plaques—materials used to lend splendour and solemnity to ritual objects. The decoration with vegetal and Neo-Byzantine motifs, together with the sturdy floor base, indicates use in blessing ceremonies and processions.
Donated to the collection of the Alaya Association by the priest’s grandson, Kostas Oikonomidis, it is exhibited at the ALAYA Cultural Centre.
