A devotional icon of St Phanourios, preserved from the home of the family of Petros Karakoulakoglou in Alaya. It is a characteristic example of early 20th-century Asia Minor folk icon painting, with a vivid colour palette and a simplified, linear rendering of the Saint’s military type.
The icon was later conserved by the icon painter Dimitris Alevizopoulos, with care taken to stabilise both the wooden support and the paint layer.
Kindly made available for photography by the family of Stathis Nouveloglou.
